In-Character Information

Name: Clear ( ʀ-2ᴇ-054 )
Game/Series: DRAMAtical Murder
Teacher/Student/Other: Student with a side job!
Canon Point: From the beginning of the game, after having been awakened by Aoba's voice.
Age: Appears to be in his 20's; actual age unknown.
Grade Level/Job: Groundskeeper is his side job, whereas as a student, he is PART OF THE BIG OLD DAYCARE FOR BABIES actually he's just going to be assigned as pre-high by Crazy Hand because I'm some kind of nihilistic shitlord to him.
Dorm or Living Arrangement: COULD HE LIVE IN STORAGE I want him to live with the trash where he belongs. Otherwise, a dorm is totally fine.

Personality:
Clear is a vivid example, "You can't judge a book by its cover." The way he comes off — eccentric, dense, and a little whiny — is perceivably childlike. He is excitable, behaves atypically, and strays away from common sense. To make matters even more interesting, he is quite emotive and reactive to people and their personalities — too emotive. He complains when people are angry or rude, gets weepy when he's hurt by someone he cares for, retaliates loudly when people are violent, and vocalizes excessively when he's happy. He jumps from rooftops to travel, enters homes and buildings carelessly, and keeps his gas mask wherever he goes.

Let's get to the bottom line here. Bluntly stated, he is a weirdo.

However, there is much more to the jubilant android than meets the eye. For one, his behavior — being so odd and naive — derives from his life as a sheltered being. He is actually a creation forged by Toue, the game's big bad. Upon being saved from incineration by his creator's hands, he was hidden away by his adoptive grandfather so he wouldn't be found. As a result, he hardly has any exposure. Common sense, such as entering a house through its door and knocking before doing so, is beyond him. Coupled with being rather forward in his exuberant approach, he may be seen as spontaneous, leaping before people and breaking personal boundaries in a flash.

His lack of basic knowledge also results in him to be a curious sort. Clear wants to know anything and everything society has to offer, and he is very eager about it. This comes out of both the need to feel 'normal', to integrate with humanity, and to keep himself enticed with fascinating new things. He sees learning as a fun and beneficial experience all around, from discovering better etiquette to what someone's favorite color is. As he sees it, there is always a good result out of educating himself, whether it is by asking people questions or doing his own research. Seeking new information is a constant for him.

Despite being unaware of some important etiquette, he isn't entirely rude and impolite. In fact, he is quite the opposite, using whatever knowledge he has of human manners to the best of his ability. He utilizes respectful keigo and honorifics when referring to people, young and old, stranger or not, unless he actively disrespects them. ( A fine example would be Toue, someone he comes to highly dislike due to differing morals and ideals. He notably does not use keigo in reference to him. ) He behaves as well as he can, going as far as taking off his shoes at the entrance of a house ( as is mandatory in Japanese home etiquette ), giving his thanks before eating his meals, bowing to his higher-ups ( and even to equals ), offering to help others as much as possible, and so on and so forth. He aims to be at his best behavior no matter what.

Along with his attempts to perfectly grasp human decency, he is also a very pacifistic person. He doesn't want to do anyone harm in any way, physically or mentally, unless he absolutely must. This means, of course, life-threatening situations, along with protecting the people close to him, such as friends, 'family' ( even if they aren't his biological own ), and Aoba, his 'master'. ( He gets his own special category, you see. ) Otherwise, he will do whatever he can to make sure the peace is kept, even if it means, well... punching someone in the face.

"But isn't that kind of hypocritical, Nikki? Trying to hurting someone to 'stop the violence?'" Yes. Is he aware? No. When it comes down to it, when he feels like he has no choice, he will attack. Just because he is pacifistic does not mean that he won't engage in a fight in dire circumstances. He will do what he must.

Clear is a very, very loyal, protective person. He will generally go to great lengths to keep the people he loves and cherishes safe. Great lengths may even be an understatement, as his methods can be notably extreme. A prime example of this is the way he goes as far as stabbing himself in the right temple to protect Aoba from harm, to effectively destroy his keylock so he can fight for him. He will do whatever is necessary, even if it means certain harm for himself and others he disrespects. He is very self-sacrificial and will go out of his way for the people he knows, for as much as keeping them safe or as little as making them smile on a bad day. Their happiness and safety is very important to him.

Clear is a very expressive person, as well, proving to be a loud voice for whatever he honestly feels. As mentioned before, he is very forthright with his emoticons. It doesn't just remain allocated to reactions either! He will be quick to show how much he loves or dislikes certain parts of his life, even things as small as how cute cats are or how scary dogs are. He will flail his limbs and jerk his head and body about. He will prolong words and expressions, generally shown in tildes or drawn-out letters. His tendency to do so, accompanying a whiny voice when disgusted or unhappy, may come across as annoying to others. Sometimes, he is aware of this, but old habits are admittedly hard to break.

Despite how he finds himself bound to Aoba an awful lot, a result of his loyalty, Clear is otherwise fiercely determined and free. He is unbound by rules or regulations beyond general etiquette. This is another factor of his personality that ties into his spontaneity, as he reacts according to his own free will, good manners, and... very little else. If he feels he should do something, he will do it, tossing aside most outside influences. The only times he may buckle and obey other figures is for his friends, such as nearly obeying a skeevy gang to keep Aoba safe from harm.

He may be a very strong figure, but even so, Clear does have his insecurities. He is a robot, a thing, and he is very self-conscious about this fact. He frequently sees himself as abnormal or as a monster. This especially shows through in his worries over his face, a part of him that he grew up thinking was different from everyone else. Therefore, he tends to wear his gas mask unless he feels particularly capable without it. Only with great trust would he ever show his face to anyone.

Being a product of Toue has its notable downfalls. While his grandfather had eradicated most of his foul programming, he still bears a dark side. Evidence of this is his determination to keep Aoba to himself and do what he wants to him, should his foreseen 'bad end' become a reality. He also goes to the length of nearly killing an entire gang to protect Aoba, only stopping when begged not to. His inherently negative emotions — anger, malice, and residual selfishness — still remain, and when he does not get his way, they may rear their ugly heads.

That is Clear in a nutshell. Sweet and honest, yet independent and strong-willed, he is a powerful figure beyond the creepy exterior. His name derives from the way he's invisible in the crowds, remaining unseen and unknown to many, but it may also derive from his clear heart, his emotions laid bear and his heart worn on his sleeve.

❝ The idea of dying and death... Doesn't that scare you? ❞

Backstory:
( this should cover things splendidly! )

At behest of his master, the one person to rouse him from eternal slumber, Clear did go home, puzzled and uncertain of what steps to take next in his newfound life. Humanity was one befuddling existence whose curious society was Clear's ultimate goal. What his grandfather would have ultimately wanted, too, was imperative; he wanted not to disappoint him, even in his death.

Eventually, while cleaning his dump of a home, tidying things to better suit fair living conditions, he discovered a note. Behind a photograph of the two of them — smiling, pleased with their life of solitude — was a note. It was a letter from his grandfather. His heart was racing, and his fingers were working fast, tearing at the envelope. Inside the otherwise unmarked post — the only indication being his grandfather's name imprinted on the front — was a flyer and the accompanying scribble.

This is the place where I learned some interesting new advancements in technology. If at all possible, I am looking to take Clear and myself here to hide away. The bridges between universes are remarkable, and they should camouflage us well while giving us a normal life.

Toue won't be able to find us here.

... Toue.

So, that was how it was going to be.

Anything Else?:
☂ His birthday is February 20th and he is a Pisces. Glub glub.
☂ His height is 5'11". His weight is unknown. Given he's a robot, he's likely heavier than a normal human's weight at his size.
☂ He has a translucent, white, vinyl umbrella that he carries around a lot, sometimes using it even when it isn't raining. He likes it a lot.
☂ Hey, did you know he can literally make anime question marks, exclamation points, and (◕‿◕✿) FLOWERS show up around his head?! It's not just the game's stylistic expression. He can literally make it happen. idk, robot shit. Aoba even remarks about it. It's great.
☂ He's capable of singing Grand Music, a type of music manufactured to 'dye peoples' brains' at the mercy of Toue. However, he doesn't ever utilize it, especially after having turned against Toue. He's also able to sing beyond Grand Music, namely the Jellyfish Song, a tune that is actually capable of counteracting Grand Music and nullifying it.
☂ He loves radio exercise music!
☂ He takes to water like nothing else. Don't worry, he's waterproof.
This headcanon image, courtesy of whitekitestrings on Tumblr, is pretty much how Clear functions.
☂ He bears impeccable, superhuman senses. He's incredibly strong and durable, as well as very perceptive of his surroundings, moreso than a lot of humans. Every sense — smell, touch, hearing, sight, and taste — is plenty stronger than the average person's.
☂ He likes all kinds of foods except for spicy foods. Expect him to complain if something's too spicy for him.
☂ He also really likes shiny things! Rather, transparent, reflective things, like a jellyfish's surface. He collects them because he can't ignore them when he sees them disposed of.
☂ His pockets are insane. it is literally a hammerspace. Like, really.
☂ He also has quite a few masks, ranging from festival masks to his beloved gas mask.
☂ He is also naturally attracted to rooftops. They make for faster travel, not to mention the nice view they provide.

Hello, everyone! Yes, hello, hello!

[ Upon the flickering of the monitor does one figure display itself. With his perky demeanor and — quite frankly — horrifying gas mask, it's obvious who this is to those who know him. To the people unaware of the enigmatic android... well, they are surely about to learn some very certain things very quick-like. ]

This is Clear, everyone! I hope you are all doing well today. [ He slants over with a polite bow, straightening up in a flash like a board. ] Today, I have very important news to speak of today! Please, you must tune in for this! It is extremely important for everyone to hear! Thank you for your devoted attention.

[ He bows again — he sure is faithful to manners, isn't he? — and reaches for an image in his pocket. With fingers over the white printed frame does he hold it up to the screen in all of its glory. With the talk he has given, stirring a hopeful uproar out of the student body and staff, he must have something juicy.

Alas, there is no juice to be had. Rather, there is only a flower.

A flower. That's it. It's a single, budding flower, its petals mostly white, yet tinged with a very tender pink towards its stem. He wiggles the picture in his hand like a wave, its body squirming this way and that.
]

I have begun the growth of our very first... aah, star plant! Let's see, what was it, ah... [ He scrambles, dropping the picture. With a dip beneath his desk, he finds and returns with a large book, plastered with the image of sunflowers at its front. ]

—It is our first hoya bella plant! They are shaped like stars when they fully grow! See? [ He twists the book to display its picture for the internet to see. ] Aren't they just so pretty? Headmaster-san will be very, very proud that I'm decorating the school like this! I will be growing an orange tree next for Crazy-san! [ Quite a lofty goal, that one. ]

Please stay tuned, and with the next episode of, ❝ Clear's Schoolyard! Ambitions of a Groundskeeper, ❞ we'll see how our plant is doing, and we will get the orange tree seeds!

[ A pause, then... a tiny giggle. ]

Hehe... I made up that name myself.

In-Character 3rd person sample:
The downpour was relentless, and for once, he wasn't pleased to see the rain.

The ambiance was melancholy enough, but what had transpired was even moreso. For whom he fought was naught but a stranger, yet still someone innocent and in need of help. Seeing her attacked by gangly men with knives, seeking the wealth of pearls about her neck, was bad enough. Seeing her stubborn refusal and realizing her imminent death, however, was even worse.

He attacked. Why, in the dark of the night, he pounced.

Keeping the men's collective attention on him was simple. Stab wounds to his back hardly stopped his assault, and with little realization had he battered his first victim to a pulp. When he whirled around, still perfectly capable of fighting with oil squirting from his backside and fists aching from his assault, they fled. They were terrified, a feeling of horror unhelped by their unconscious and seriously injured mate.

They weren't the only ones petrified.

The elderly women was a ghastly white, so pale, and when Clear approached her next, she froze in fear. His intent towards her was as friendly as could be, his tone not like that of the dangerous machine destroying a human's face. "Hello!" He'd chirped, yet she was not swayed. She would never be swayed.

She backed away from him, and, rattled as could be, shouted, "Stop! Don't come for me next!" With that, she turned heel and bailed, leaving him behind in the lonely tranquility of the rainfall.

But why? Why, when he was just trying to help her?

Hands rested upon his own mask, and his chest grew thick with guilt. He'd come off to her as a monster, much like the thugs who wanted her belongings, even in his attempts to defend her. Had he seemed... inhuman? Wrong? The questions pestered him relentlessly, as did the storm, soaking him to the bone.

He didn't care.

He wasn't pleased to feel the rain anymore.
